Mission
As a research group, we work together to learn and develop our skills, to try to discover more of the truth, and to disseminate what we learn to benefit the world. Our group’s special mission is to develop methods for predicting reactive chemistry and chemical kinetics, but we also pursue other lines of research.
To do this in the best possible way, we hold by five core values:
Collaboration and Teamwork
We work together and with others outside our group to motivate and support each other, to learn from each other, to practice teamwork, and to accomplish our mission. We understand that we are all coming from different backgrounds and personal experiences, each facing our own individual challenges. We value the diverse range of skills, talents, and perspectives in the group.
Innovation
We constantly strive to push the frontiers of knowledge, to discover ways to solve important problems, and put what we learn to the benefit of society. When appropriate we make distribution-quality software or file patents to increase the probability that our research discoveries will have a positive impact.
Integrity, Professionalism, and Openness
We present our work accurately and honestly and follow through on promises. To foster scientific and engineering advances, we make it easy for others to replicate and expand on our work. We understand that everyone makes mistakes, and we work to rectify any mistakes we make as soon as we discover them, so they will not mislead, harm, or upset others.
Education and Personal Growth
We are all learning and growing. We take responsibility for our own education, in both hard and soft skills, and we help and encourage others in the group as they learn and grow. We celebrate the successes of each member of the group.
Health
We support each other’s efforts to achieve/maintain good physical, emotional and mental health. We maintain a caring, professional working environment in the group, and a safe working environment in the lab. We keep an eye out for each other.
